electra310: (the plot thickens)
So, here I am, near the end of another workday, a day away from another paycheck. I've spent a good portion of today shopping for someplace to live down in Champaign. I found a pretty good looking apartment, but the rental company has yet to email me back, though I sent one to them before 9 this morning. Boo to that. Anyhow, I quickly got bored with that, and began expanding my search. I would really love to live in a house again. Dorm living is okay, and apartment living, but I miss having a house with a yard, and an address all to myself. With property prices the way they are in Champaign, if we could get a mortgage we could probably buy a small house for about how much we'd pay in rent for a medium apartment. Some of the houses are really cute, too. I'm a sucker for little houses.

Of course, I know it's not practical for us right now. For one thing, we'd never qualify for a mortgage, with both of us pursuing education for at least three more years. My credit is good, but Mike is still on his training-wheels credit card, so that will take a couple years to build up as well. And of course when you buy a house, you don't have a landlord or a maintenance man to fix things. So there's repair costs, and you have to mow your own lawn, and make sure all the utilities are paid, and all sorts of things like that. And it's not like we really need a house, when we're not planning to start a family for a long time. But compared to the idea of living in an apartment for three to five more years down in Champaign, it's a very nice dream.

Oh well. At least this way by the time we're done living in apartments, I will be extremely highly motivated to save up down payment money for a house wherever we end up living. And now it is the end of the day here at work, so I'd better get going. Train waits for no man!
