Denny may have a new home! It's very exciting, and I'm hopeful that this one will work out beautifully. When Denny came into the rescue, he had a brother named Raptor with him, and they were both quite young. The rescue decided to split them up because they were codependent and reinforcing each other's scared behavior. Denny came to us, and Raptor went to another couple. But where Denny came out of his shell and started loving on people, Raptor became even shyer and more unhandleable. The couple eventually adopted him because they thought no one else would take on such a difficult case. He hid under the bed all the time and was completely untrusting of people.
Fast forward to this past weekend, when Mike and I took off for Pirate Weekend on the Ohio River. We had a fantastic time, but that's another story. While we were gone, we boarded Victoria at the vet, but had to put Denny back in the system. We thought he was going to spend four days in the basement of another rescuer's house and we were sad about that, but there wasn't much we could do. As it turns out, though, the other rescuer had the bright idea of dropping Denny off with the other foster family so the boys could hang out for a few days and Denny wouldn't have to sit in the basement. They didn't even really think the brother's would remember each other after all this time.
Turns out, they did. The bond, I am told, was strong and instant. They curled up to sleep together, they played together, they groomed each other. When Raptor saw his brother Denny playing with people and with the big cat, he tagged along after and got in on the fun. He was like a different cat, no longer terrified and hiding, but taking some extrovert cues from his brother. The other foster couple was delighted, and it really looks like they're going to adopt Denny as well. It would be a crime to split them up again at this point. So Denny will be in the perfect home, and our job with him will be well done. I am very pleased. Cross your fingers for Denny!
