The Leftovers of the Day
Sep. 13th, 2004 12:15 amToday was a big day for cooking. Dad and Kirsten were up to see the Bears game today, and since we're only four miles from Soldier Field, they stayed with us and we dropped them off before church so they didn't have to find parking. Because I am a wonderful wife, daughter, and sister, I got up at 6am and make homemade crepes with real whipped cream flavored with vanilla, and dusted with powdered sugar, and corn muffins on the side. After church I really got down and dirty and made another German Chocolate cake from scratch, which helped ease the agony of defeat after the Bears failed to pull it off in the fourth quarter. I think this one was even better than the first, because I didn't rush the cooling like last time. Sent most of it home with them, along with most of the double chocolate walnut cookies I made Friday.
Speaking of cookies, I'm compiling my ingredient list for Galesburg/AnimeIowa. I hope to have at least five or six dozen to take with me, all different kinds. If anyone has a specific kind they are pining for, speak now or forever hold your peace. Mike and I go out shopping tomorrow. I swear, I've gone through about fifteen pounds of sugar alone since I've moved here. But it's fun! The only problem is, I got a spatula stuck in my electric mixer the other week, and the beaters have never been the same. I have to try and find a new set, but how do you find beaters for a forty or fifty year old mixer? Puzzlement, indeed...
