Back to the new reality
Aug. 9th, 2004 02:02 pmWow... it's been a busy few weeks. I think this is the longest interval since I was 15 or so that I didn't have internet access and didn't really care too much. And I'm pretty sure of the reason, too. After all, my number one reason for wanting to be online is here with me now, which makes just living in the real world much nicer. =)
We got back from our honeymoon last Thursday, after spending a week down at Mike's folks' half-furnished new house in Asheville NC. It was really beautiful, the house, that is. Asheville is a very rainy place. But we had a lot of fun, and didn't spend too much money. We ended up taking down all the cash we got as wedding presents and spending that, rather than dipping into bank account or credit card. We took tours of the city in daytime and at night (the ghost tour of Asheville, spooooky...) and ate the absolute best chocolate ever from a place called The Chocolate Fetish. And we hit some flea markets and some pet stores and spent a lot of time just being together at home.
Once we got back to Freeport, we opened up all of our gifts, which was a lot of fun, and humbling as well. I mean seriously, we got a _lot_ of presents. I'm still working on my individual thank-you notes, but here's a big general thank you to all of you who gave us gifts. Not only did we get the pleasure and honor of your company at the wedding, but a present besides! This all seems like quite a racket. =D Anyhow, we opened all the presents, oohed and aahed, then packed everything up again and took it to our new apartment in Chicago. It's a good thing we've got six closets, or we'd never even come close to having a place to put everything. But as it is, things are slowly being beaten into some semblance of order. I think by tomorrow or the next day it should be clean. Maybe I'm turning over a new leaf.
Right now Mike and I are both in the U of C library, using their computers until our new cable modem arrives next week. I've been out pounding the pavement looking for jobs, and I'm hopeful that it won't take too long. Being unemployed makes me edgy. But there's a lot to do up here, and a lot to see and learn, which helps. We're almost ready to begin receiving houseguests, and that will be even more fun.
Oh, and I got my driver's license and Social Security card changed. Cori Davis. Hmmmm. Pretty good. =)
