I have successfully repaired the vacuum cleaner! Go me! I was terribly disappointed when my wonderful and expensive Oreck vacuum cleaner stopped sucking nearly so much (this is normally a good thing, except in vacuums). I took it in to the local Oreck store, after marveling how nice it is to have a local store to service your vacuum. The lady took one look at it, at the front of it, mind you, not the inside, and said "Looks like you've got a clog. She was right, too. Impressive! She reached into the bottom and showed me where something was stuck in the intake tube. "I can fix it for ten dollars," she told me, "But you can probably do it yourself. It has five Phillips screws on the bottom, just pop them out and the whole plate comes off." Emboldened, I thanked her and went to exercise my engineering prowess. It took two days to get around to it, but she was right. It was easy! And now my Oreck sucks as much as it ever has.
