This is not an easy week at work. I got Thursday and Friday off, so I'm happy, but I'm working thirty-seven hours, so I'm sad. My feet are especially sad. I worked ten and a half hours yesterday, six tonight, and eight tomorrow, then eight on Wednesday. My body is weeping, my brain is exhausted, and the house is still dirty. When I get home from work, I can't walk, which makes it hard to clean. I'm studying Evidence on my breaks and lunches, but I'm still getting hung up on hearsay exceptions. I feel like I have no time and no energy to do anything. And I'm grinding my teeth again like whoa. If I'm not careful, I'll break this temporary root canal.
But there are a few bright spots, there always are. We have two new birds in the house, Boris and Bella. We rescued them from the Humane Society, and they are settling in well. Here are pictures. I got a nice big tray of sliced meats on the cheap today because it was about to pass the sell-by date and my manager didn't want to have to throw it out. I had no time to buy Christmas presents, but I might try to go out Wednesday night to buy some for my family. It'll be nice to see my folks and Kirsten and Allie again, as well as eat several large meals that I don't have to pay for or prepare. Mike has been a big help, picking up and dumping trash and filling the foot massage bath for me. And, of course, thirty seven hours means a nice chunk of change to help pay for aforesaid Christmas presents, as well as luxuries like heat.
I guess this is just a "this too shall pass" period in our lives for both of us. Eventually Mike will go back to school and get a job he enjoys. Eventually I will finish school and start salaried work that I can do sitting down. Eventually our earnings will meet our expenses (I hope.) We're healthy, our pets are healthy, our relationship is healthy, and the fridge has four pounds of lunchmeat in it. We'll get by. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
