electra310: (Badger Counsel)
Holy cow, it's been a long time since I've updated. Things have gotten pretty busy around here this past month, with memos and finals and getting ready for Thanksgiving. I am miserably behind on preparing for my finals. This law school thing is hard. I was a terrible student in high school and college. I don't remember more than a handful of times in college when I even showed up to class with the readings done (I did usually show up to class, so at least that's something.) The way it ususally worked out was if I was good at a class, I was good at it without studying. And if I wasn't good at it, I spent one of my saved up AP credits and dropped it.

Law school isn't like that, though. I can talk a good game in class, because I actually do my readings for once in my lazy-ass life. But that's not going to cut it when finals time rolls around. And it's rolling around very quickly. I have to go back and remember everything we learned in class all semester, and be able to regurgitate it coherently in a three hour final. And I have to try and look good amidst sixty other people who are at least as smart as I am. That should be an exciting experience. Every lawyer I've talked to says there's not much scarier than first semester finals, so at least I'll be getting one more of those awful one-time-only experiences over with.

I should be studying this week, since I'm on break, but I've also got to do a ton of cooking and cleaning. Mike's folks are coming to visit for the holiday, and I'm putting on the full spread. Turkey with dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, butternut squash soup, homemade pumpkin pie, homemade cranberry sauce, and eggnog. I made homemade eggnog last year, but sincerely, I actually prefer the storebought stuff. Mine tasted kind of weird, though it was awesome frozen. Kind of an eggnog ice cream thing.

Tonight my cooking is facing a tough audience. The birds are in Week Six of the Pellet Conversion Diet, and they have yet to lose weight or start eating pellets. The birds are about as successful at dieting as I am. One lady on my parrot lover's community said that she mixes her budgies' pellets with baby food and they can't get enough of it. So tonight I bought some sweet potato and some carrot baby food, and mixed their pellets with it. The birds will have none of it. Most of them are staying as far away from the dish as they can. Dani came up and looked at it, bobbed her head aggressively at it a few times, and flew away. Not a good sign.

But bad luck for them, I am not going to give up on this. They don't get their birdseed tonight until they try the pellet mix. And since Karen decided to take a bath in the other food dish, all their food from yesterday is on the floor and the couch and in my hair. So if they want to eat, they're eating what I cooked. Hmm, that's kind of the same way I get Mike to try new things. (Just kidding!)

Okay, I have to get going now. I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow, but Mike's got his first real day on his new job. He's teaching preschool now, and he's got big plans. He's got to be in Rantoul at 7:30, though, so it's an early morning.
