This noon I made myself a tofu stir-fry from scratch. It is very delicious. Very spicy. Tofu is so much easier to work with than eggs, and gives my stir-fry the same squashy bits and ability to absorb all the seasonings I pour on it. Much love to the bean curd.
Yesterday I went to an auction and got a bunch of new furnishings for my soon-to be apartment. I got a two-piece sofa, which can be separated, go around a corner, or be put together side to side to form a mega-sofa even Mike can stretch out on. I also got a lovely octagonal end table with a cabinet beneath it. It looks like it was made to store gaming stuff, by someone who probably had no idea what gaming is. I also got two brass-looking decorator lamps that will be very nice in the living room or bedroom. Cost for the whole schmear? Twelve dollars and fifty cents. (One of the lamps took up the lion's share of that cost, five whole dollars!) I am the queen of auctions.
In fairness, it was the perfect auction for a young woman looking to stock her home. An estate auction on a workday afternoon, in miserable muggy weather, where almost the entire crowd was middle-aged and up, presumably with furniture of their own. The draw for this auction was a collection of Hummel figurines and three sets of Waterford crystal. The bidding for those was intense, with some of those dopey little figures fetching 300 dollars a pop. But for the furniture, all I had to do was wait until the bidding got down to 2.50, 2.00, or even 50 cents, and then raise my card. I let a few nice things pass, and now I'm glad I did, since it took the Boat of Car three trips to take home what I did get. The main thing I need now is a dresser, and there's a big estate auction a few miles away in Orangeville next weekend. Hooray!
