In the Mood, doo-dah....
Oct. 8th, 2002 04:18 amHaven't updated for a couple of days. There are several reasons for that. The most obvious one, of course, is that I haven't had much of interest to say. Also of not inconsiderable note is the fact that I played D&D until late in the night for most of the weekend, so when I came home it was at 3am to fall asleep immediately with visions of orcs dancing in my head.
That is not to say that I didn't have a lot of fun these past few days, because I have. Friday night the Improv workshop was called on account of hardly anyone showing up, so Wes and Heather and Suzy and Jason and Jake and I all went to Williston and played a D&D one (or two) shot game. It was lovely. I went with what has been working for me since I started playing and generated a gnome druid. Small, lightweight, portable, and when generated at 8th level, packs quite a punch. =) To demonstrate this, I cast Reincarnate on Wes' Deep Gnome when it died, and turned him into a female pixie. I was impressed. I've always wanted to cast that spell on someone, but people just don't die enough.
This was not the case on Saturday night when I went to play in Darin's game. I'm the only girl playing in that campaign thus far, though it's the biggest one I've been in, with about seven players. It's a lot more "stereotypical D&D" in that it is very goal-oriented without too much roleplaying along the way. But it's a lot of fun. One interesting wrinkle, Darin, the DM, made us all generate first level characters, which is something I've never played before.
They're very fragile, I soon found out. I varied my formula and created a half-elf druid (someone else decided to be a gnomish druid first, dammitall,) and noticed that I bottomed out at both HP and AC for the party. Oh well. I knew I wasn't going to have a good night when I managed, among other hideous stat rolls, to get four 1's on a single roll during generation. Good for yahtzee, appalling for character generation.
Sure enough, my character managed to bite the dust halfway through the night, falling into a punji pit. ("I don't want to be Elfstar anymore!") I was amused by the other party members alternately fighting over her gold and gear and not wanting anything to do with it, because it seemed so ghoulish. In the end, I just changed her name on the stat sheet and brought in an identical character. First night of the campaign, first level characters, what's the harm? Better that than spend another hour generating.
Anyhow, that was fun also. Tonight I once again ignored my homework, this time to go play cards in Post Lobby at the GIN mixer. I learned two new games, Fluxx and Lunch Money. Fluxx is your basic draw-one-play-one-change-all-the-rules-till-everything-goes-to-hell type of game. Lunch money is a fighting card game, where you all brawl like really aggressive evil kids on the playground. I was the first one to be out, mostly because Wes trumped me out twice with the Humiliation card. ("You're a girl!" "You're a girly girl!") Ah well. Fun to play and fun to watch. Something to remember: A firm glare causes no HP loss when shoved up someone's ass. At least according to Gabe and Lauren. I'll take their word for it.
So, tomorrow I've got the scene study to perform with Loren-the-Guy, and the Greek Philosophy essay to turn in. I suppose I ought to write it. The topic is how would we vote if we were on the jury at Socrates trial. My knee-jerk impulse is definitely to kill him because he's just such an asshole. I think I may need to justify this further. Goodnight!
